The dot SE country-specific extension was created in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were ordered. Persons could obtain no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish persons, firms and organizations could order a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.

Currently, anybody can acquire a .SE domain, which gives you the opportunity to contact the Swedish WWW community even if you do not have a local presence.
